Retire before notional retiring age

If you have completed 20 years of effective service, you are entitled to retirement pay even if you retire before your notional retiring age for rank. However, your retirement pay will reduce by 3% for each year your actual retiring age is less than your notional retiring age. These provisions encourage officers to remain in service until a certain age.
