If you are made redundant, and you are not eligible to receive retirement pay from the DFRDB Scheme, you will receive a lump sum refund of the contributions you have paid into the Scheme, plus a gratuity where applicable.
If you are entitled to retirement pay this is determined in the same manner as for retirement except that if you are an officer and you are made redundant, you will be exempt from the notional retiring age provisions (see the section on notional retiring age on page 17).
If you are made redundant on non-medical grounds and have 20 or more years of effective service, or have 15 or more years of effective service and have reached the retiring age for your rank (usually age 55), you are entitled to retirement pay. Retirement pay becomes payable on the day after the date of your discharge from the Defence Force, and it will be paid to you fortnightly for the rest of your life (unless you re-enter the ADF). Retirement pay is subject to annual indexation based on movements in the CPI.
