The DFRDB Act 1973 has been amended in line with changes to other Commonwealth Laws removing discrimination against same-sex couples and their children. The changes are effective from 1 January 2009 and allow eligible same-sex partners to receive death benefits upon the death of their partner. Eligible children of same-sex couples will also have access to this benefit.
Members in same-sex relationships do not need to register their relationships with ComSuper as eligibility will be determined at the time of death.
Application forms and publications are being progressively updated and will be available on this website in early 2009.
