Annual deductible amount previously claimed from the Tax Office

Some pension recipients are entitled to claim a Pre-1983 excess contribution amount against their pension to count towards the calculation of a deductible amount. If you had a deductible amount that was reported on your payment summaries for previous financial years, you were able to claim this amount annually with the Tax Office.

This has now changed due to the new format of the payment summaries, and this deductible amount is no longer recorded. You are now required to obtain current documentation from the Tax Office. This can be obtained by writing to:

The Tax Office Superannuation Business Line, PO Box 277, World Trade Centre VIC 8005.

Please ensure you ask for a letter stating the amount of your Pre-1983 excess contributions. It is important to note that if your pension commenced prior to July 1983 you will need to ask for a letter stating your deductible amount. Please then forward this information to ComSuper. Your Tax Free component will then be re-calculated and we will send you an amended payment summary. If you have already lodged your tax return, you will need to request an amended assessment from the Tax Office.
